Freedom Eye Laser (referred to as “we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This Privacy Policy outlines how your personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and managed by us when you use our website http://freedomeyelaser.com.au (the “Site”).

1. The Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)

We manage your personal information in an open and transparent way and comply with the APPs, which govern how we collect, use, disclose and store your personal information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you provide to us when you interact with our Site. This may include:

  • Quiz Data (See Section 4): Information you submit as part of the quiz on our site (e.g., answers to quiz questions, email address and demographic information).
  • Usage Data: Information collected automatically when you visit our Site, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and details about the pages you view. This is primarily for maintaining security and improving the functionality of our Site.
  • Cookies and Tracking: We use cookies for analytics and Facebook tracking which can be managed through preferences in your browser settings.

3. How We Use and Disclose Your Information

We collect, hold, use, and disclose your personal information for the primary purposes of:

  • To allow you to participate in and use the features of our Site.

4. Collection, Retention, and De-Identification of Quiz Data

When you participate in the interactive quiz on our website, we collect the data you submit (which includes personal identifiers such as your name or email address) in a separate database.

The purpose of this collection is to provide you with information on what type of eye surgery is most suitable for you and your current situation. This generates a personalised result, and sends you a follow-up email with your results.

In compliance with APP 11.2, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information when it is no longer needed for any purpose for which it may be used or disclosed under the APPs.

Specifically, all identifiable personal data collected through the quiz database will be automatically and securely removed from our servers after a period of twelve (12) months from the date of submission. We retain this data for 12 months in order to follow-up with quiz respondents and data analysis for marketing purposes. After this 12-month period, the data will be either deleted entirely or de-identified (anonymised) to ensure it can no longer be linked back to you for long-term statistical use.

5. Access and Correction

You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and the right to request the correction of any inaccuracies. If you would like to access or request the correction of any inaccuracies of your personal information, please submit a request to our Practice Manager at info@freedomeyelaser.com.au.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss and from unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. We use a range of physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to secure your information.
