Due to the unprecedented crisis from the Covid-19 pandemic, we are suspending appointments and deferring elective surgery.
My aim has always been to provide the safest possible treatments and the highest level of patient care. Safety at this point is paramount. I will only be treating patients with an imminent risk to sight and these will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
This decision was made with three goals in mind:
1. To protect all patients and staff from Covid-19 transmission. Ophthalmology is particularly at risk for transmission due to close proximity during examination. The health of everyone is our priority.
2. To protect particularly the elderly patient cohort that comprises a large proportion of our practice. They are at risk and must be isolated as far as possible from asymptomatic transmission.
3. To preserve resources in the hospital sector, particularly with regards to Personal Protection Equipment and anesthetic equipment. This is to support the effort in the health sector against the upcoming onslaught in treating Covid-19 viral pneumonia.
Close proximity for physical examinations, diagnostic measurements and testing is necessary for a thorough eye examination. It is, therefore, impossible to practice social distancing of 2 metres in our clinical setting.
We are hoping normal services will resume soon. When it is regarded as safe, all consults and surgeries will be rescheduled in the existing order.
The practice will be contacting every patient personally regarding the rescheduling. Our hours have been reduced with reception available to take calls, responding to emails and ensuring we are contactable in case of emergencies.
We really appreciate your understanding and ongoing support, these are really challenging times for small businesses and the community in general.
Our thoughts are with you all. Stay well and we look forward to seeing you soon.
