LASIK for over 45 year olds
Laser Vision Correction for someone over 45 years of age, if both eyes are corrected for distance will not allow you to read without glasses. The only solution to achieve freedom from both distance and reading glasses with laser is mono vision. See below.
Monovision with laser is commonly offered as an alternative to multifocal lens implants. The dominant eye is corrected for distance and the non-dominant for near. Its principal disadvantage is the loss of depth perception that requires both eyes to be working together. In addition, as the natural lens further stiffens, the reading eye requires enhancement in 5-10 years. The larger the difference between the two eyes, the more the near vision degrades the distance vision quality. Monovision with a mono focal intraocular lens has the same disadvantage with the loss of depth perception and visual quality.
The multifocal intraocular lenses utilised at Freedom Eye Laser therefore have the triple advantage of:
- Retained depth perception,
- Optimal quality of vision for both distance and near;
- Permanence of the visual improvement.
